Meghan Cowens de Sturdze

I have always loved working on people. I have a photo of me doing abdominal massage on my mom when I was three. I am sure she was telling me what to do, but I believe that my foundation for helping people through touch was laid early. From those humble beginnings I was further exposed to functional nutrition and energy medicine. I remember rooting into the earth as a child to feel better if I was sick. Then as I got older I developed exercise induced asthma and a load of fun New England allergies. My mom took me to an acupuncturist who would burn moxa on my big toe. Somehow it worked, and my asthma went away.

I realize that most people do not grow up learning energy work and being exposed to acupuncture and whole foods. I feel blessed that my family gave me the freedom to explore the subtle energies that make us whole and healthy. Armed with this knowledge I went on to study Classics in college with an appetite to discover the roots of Western Medicine. As I got into the work of Galen and Hippocrates I realized that the basis for their medicine was all about balancing the humors. They knew that daily exercise, good food and a peaceful life was the key to wellness. This led me to wonder how I could study a medicine today that would convey this same message.

This led me to Traditional Chinese Medicine, where I was able to see beautiful applications for balancing the body’s energies. After graduating from the Atlantic Institute of Oriental Medicine I have gone on to study tuina (Chinese medical massage) in depth at the Beijing Massage Hospital, thai massage, and Sports Medicine Acupuncture with Matt Callison. The trainings have allowed me to understand and utilize orthopedic testing and muscle motor points to successfully isolate and rehabilitate musculo-skeletal issues. I strive to find ways to release and unwind the body’s traumas and pain. I am adept at solving complex pain syndromes such as SI joint dysfunction, TMJ dysfunction, Patella Femoral Syndrome as well as whiplash, and low back pain from spinal stenosis and degeneration.

I believe that we can all live a healthy, pain free life, physically, emotionally and spiritually. I invite you to give yourself the gift of healing.
